Please Welcome the New President and Vice President of the Pediatric Chairs of Canada

The Pediatric Chairs of Canada (PCC) would like to extend a warm welcome to their new President, Dr. Andrew Lynk, Chair, Department of Pediatrics, Dalhousie University, and Vice-President, Dr. Mark Anselmo, Head, Department of Pediatrics, University of Calgary.

"Extraordinary times demand extraordinary leadership. I am so pleased to work with Drs. Lynk and Anselmo in their new roles at PCC to advance children's health research and medical education, in the context of COVID19 and beyond," says PCC Executive Director, Emily Gruenwoldt. "This pandemic continues to deeply impact Canada's 8 million children and youth. The leadership of the Chairs to ensure no child is left behind has never been more important."

Dr. Andrew Lynk is Chair of Pediatrics at the IWK Health Centre and Dalhousie University in Halifax (2016). He had previously practiced as a community pediatrician in Cape Breton for over 25 years. He has served in numerous leadership roles, including as President of the Canadian Paediatric Society and Chair of the CPS Advocacy and Leadership Committees, and VP Medicine for the Cape Breton District Health Authority. He has longstanding experience in results-based health advocacy. In addition, he has interests in public policy, physician leadership, global health, and patient safety & quality improvement.

Dr. Mark Anselmo has been the head of the Department of Pediatrics since December 1, 2018. His former role was Facility Medical Director (FMD) of the Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) since 2014 and prior to that was the section chief of Pediatric Respiratory Medicine. Dr. Anselmo is an associate member of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute and an associate professor of Pediatrics. His clinical interests include asthma, interstitial lung disease and pulmonary hypertension. Dr. Anselmo earned his medical degree from the University of Alberta, underwent residency training at the University of Saskatchewan and pulmonary fellowship training at Harvard University. He and his family returned to Alberta in 2010 after spending seven years in Quebec while Dr. Anselmo was working at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. He is very excited to serve the Pediatric Chairs of Canada and support Children’s Healthcare Canada.

“We have developed strong academic, clinical and social child health institutions across the country; it is imperative that we come together as one to address urgently the health of infants, children and youth in Canada,” states Dr. Anselmo.

Canada's seventeen Pediatric Chairs and the staff at PCC would like to thank past-President, Dr. Bob Connelly, Chair, Department of Pediatrics, Queen's University for his significant contributions to the PCC over his term, and formally welcome Drs. Lynk and Anselmo.
