Patient Safety Competencies Curriculum Development

This site is the home of the Patient Safety Curriculum for the Canadian Paediatric Residency Programs.

This curriculum was developed through the tremendous collaboration of the Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI), the Paediatric Chairs of Canada and the national Program Directors and is based on the CPSI document The Safety Competencies: Enhancing Patient Safety Across the Health Professions.

The curriculum is designed to be flexible and interactive.  It is presented in a case based format providing options for educators to host 1 hour lunch and learns, journal clubs, academic half days, and opportunities to imbed into day to day activities.  It includes PowerPoint presentations, case presentations, facilitator guides, recommended readings, and references.

The curriculum is not intended to represent a complete curriculum but a framework to build on and an opportunity to create a site specific curriculum based on resources, culture and experience. The curriculum development steering group appreciates all of your feedback and any recommendations for inclusions to the existing content.

Please direct any inquiries or recommendations to Lisa Stromquist, Patient Safety Liaison, lstromquist@caphc.org.
