Patient and Family Centred Care Scientist
Department of Paediatrics
Cumming School of Medicine

The Department of Paediatrics (http://www.ucalgary.ca/paed) and the O’Brien Institute for Public  Health (OIPH: https://obrieniph.ucalgary.ca) invite applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, to develop an independent research program in clinical, population health or health service research related to the field of Patient and Family Centred Care. The position will also be supported by the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI: https://research4kids.ucalgary.ca) and joint appointments may be provided to the Department of Community Health Sciences http://www.ucalgary.ca/communityhealthsciences/) and the Department of Family Medicine (http://www.ucalgary.ca/familymedicine/).

Alignment of the research interests with the priorities of the University and the 2015-2020
Cumming School of Medicine strategic plan (http://cumming.ucalgary.ca/deans-office/strategic-plan) is an asset. In particular, the research interests should align with the CSM’s Precision Medicine priority and the OIPH’s Translational Precision Medicine plan aimed at delivering precision discoveries to patients and populations. We are seeking a researcher with expertise in patient engagement research and advocacy, human factors, and in the science of patient reported experience measures and outcome measures (PREMs and PROMs). Precision/personalized medicine harkens a new era of shared decision-making for which solicitation of patient preference is prioritized, and in which patients and providers will need to work together in the processing of new types of information integrated in a timely way into clinical decision making pathways.

Qualifications include a PhD or equivalent, and certification in an appropriate professional
association, if relevant. The position provides 85% protected time for research and will also include teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. This is an excellent opportunity to develop an independent externally-funded research program within an outstanding collaborative environment. Generous startup packages are available through the Department of Paediatrics, OIPH and ACHRI.
